Explore the best coves in Mallorca with our guide to these beautiful spots. Discover stunning coves, crystal-clear waters, and breathtaking scenery.
Nobody doubts that the coves of Mallorca are one of the island's biggest attractions and the major reason why thousands of tourists visit us from all over the world year after year. While many of these coves are famous worldwide, there are still some hidden gems waiting to be discovered on the so-called island of calm. Our luxury hotel in the heart of the island, Finca Serena Mallorca, has a strategic location perfect for visiting the most idyllic coastal spots during your next getaway.
These are the most beautiful coves in Mallorca
Cala Virgili, Cala Pilota, and Cala Magraner: three treasures of the Mediterranean
Located on the eastern coast of the island, just a 45-minute drive from our 5-star hotel in Mallorca, you will find one of the best coves in Mallorca: Cala Virgili. This small sandy spot is accessible via a short, pleasant hike through unspoiled terrain.
The same route also leads to two other coves, Cala Pilota and Cala Magraner. None of these coves have lifeguard services or restaurants, so they are best avoided on rough sea days. However, they are perfect for a peaceful day away from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Es Racó de s’Arena: the best-kept secret in southern Mallorca
In the southern part of the island, in an area that has managed to resist the impact of mass tourism, lies one of the most beautiful coves in Mallorca, Es Racó de s’Arena. Perhaps overshadowed by its larger neighbors, Sa Rápita and Es Trenc beaches, it is not one of the most visited coves on the island, which precisely makes it one of our favorites.
Accessible from the port of s’Estanyol, this cove of sand and pebbles is surrounded by a pine forest frequented by runners and hikers. Its often calm waters in the early morning make it one of the best coves in Mallorca for kayaking. From here, you can paddle around s’Estanyol area, stopping at various coves along the coast and exploring the cozy caves that shelter swimmers and small boats.
Discovering the vibrant character of the northern coast
Next on our tour around Mallorca’s coves, we head to the north of the island, to Caló dels Ermitans, also known as s’Arenalet de Son Colom. Located just a 40-minute drive from Finca Serena, this cove is part of the Natural Area of Special Interest Muntanyes d’Artà. Shaped by the northern winds, this cove lacks vegetation but it is close to the wooded area of the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park.
From Caló dels Ermitans, you can visit the archaeological site of Can Pa amb Oli, the Necropolis of Son Real, and the Betlem Hermitage. Though it does not offer services, so it may not be the best option for families with children, the cove is perfect for snorkeling and discovering the sea life of northern Mallorca.
Cala Tuent: a natural gem in the heart of Tramuntana
Sheltered by the Tramuntana Mountains on the west coast of the island, we find some of the least explored coves. Located in remote spots, many of these coves are only accessible by hiking through the mountains. Despite the summer heat, the effort is worth it for some of the best views on the island. Among them is Cala Tuent, one of the best coves in Mallorca: with views of Puig Major, the highest mountain on the island, crystal-clear waters, and a paradisiacal natural setting, it has become a true emblem.
The hike from Sóller takes over two hours, so it is important to be well-prepared, bring enough water, and wear appropriate clothing. The final dip with a view is the best reward for the adventurous!
Following this route from the center of Mallorca to the island’s four cardinal points, we can enjoy some of the most beautiful coves in Mallorca. However, it is important to remember the fragility of this natural environment and the need to preserve and protect it. To continue marveling at these paradisiacal spots, we must practice environmentally respectful tourism that maintains all the magic and essence of this Mediterranean gem.
